Sean Ash, a resident of Welling, Kent, and former NHS worker, is the author of the science fiction novel In A World Without Tears and the darkly humorous, absurdist novella Dead 'N Famous. Both titles are available on Amazon UK.
With an academic background in politics, philosophy, and counselling studies, Sean has a deep interest in the complexities of human nature. Following a diagnosis of Cauda Equina Syndrome that left him a wheelchair user, he became a passionate advocate for disability rights, using his personal experiences to help others navigate both physical and emotional challenges. These themes—pain, resilience, and what it means to be truly alive—are at the heart of his writing.
Born in November 1981, Sean is also widely known for his inspiring journey and contributions to the National Health Service. In 2021, motivated by a desire to give back to the NHS and support his colleagues, he launched the Xtra Mile fundraising campaign. His goal was to walk one mile—split into two half-mile sections—to raise money for the London Ambulance Service Charitable Fund.
On January 12, 2021, Sean completed the first half-mile in his local neighbourhood, accompanied by his daughters and friend Danny Hackett. The second half-mile was achieved on February 2, 2021, at Millwall Football Club’s iconic "Den" stadium—a particularly meaningful venue for Sean as a devoted Millwall supporter.
His determination captured widespread attention, ultimately raising over £81,000 in support of the NHS.
In addition to his writing and advocacy, Sean also creates music under the alias Ashdotman, with an album available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.

Dr. John Barnes, a brilliant but disillusioned scientist, creates a revolutionary tablet that eliminates both physical and emotional pain. Initially hailed as a miracle, the drug quickly leads to catastrophic consequences—without pain, there is no joy. Without suffering, there is no empathy. Society falls into apathy, and the government seizes control, using the drug to manipulate and suppress dissent.
John’s father, a staunch believer in the necessity of pain, sacrificed himself in protest, leaving John to confront the guilt and grief of his loss. Haunted by his creation, John realises the true cost of erasing emotion, but he cannot undo his mistake alone. With his closest friend, Elizabeth, by his side, John embarks on a dangerous mission to restore humanity’s ability to feel before the world loses its soul forever.

“When I first started A World Without Tears, I had no idea what to expect, but wow — it completely captivated me. The world-building is incredibly immersive, the characters feel genuine, and there’s an underlying tension that kept me reading way too late into the night. It’s the kind of book that stays with you long after you’ve finished. Highly recommend.”
